We all know about this thing called “stress eating.” You know, when something goes wrong and you turn to food for comfort, reaching for those sweets and heavy carbs. It’s a quick fix but then you’re left with regret!
What everyone really needs to do is to know which foods actually have an anti-stress effect and go for those to keep your mind AND body healthy!
So I wanted to share a list of some of my favorites foods to get you through the day feeling focused, balanced, and ready to conquer the world!
Just a single serving of avocado (which is just about a quarter) will give you lots of B vitamins, vitamin E andfolate, and more! They’ll reduce blood sugar spikes which can lead to anxiety. Some thin slices on sandwiches will not only add a layer of flavor but put an extra spring in your step!
Which is your favorite berry? Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, it doesn’t matter, they’re all good for you! They’re rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which will help lower blood pressure and focus! On a hot day, I love freezing them and snacking!
This is one of those classic comfort foods, but unlike the other ones that tend to be too fatty, sweet or salty, oatmeal does so much good! It will get your brain to make serotonin which is a feel-good chemical that will create a soothing feeling that helps overcome stress. It’s a perfect breakfast food to get your day started on a good note!
Lemons and Oranges
Both of these are full of Vitamin C! Squeezing both to make lemon water or orange juice will kickstart your day! Oranges are super easy to tote around in a purse, ready whenever you need that extra boost!
This is a great food for your body and brain! It will keep physical and psychological stress in check. It’s a great source of vitamin D for mood enhancement and stress management. Pair them with some brown rice and you’ve got yourself a healthy, filling meal!
Turkey’s another food that promotes serotonin production! Look for free range turkey! Even a small serving on a salad will give you feelings of calmness and relaxation. Just make sure to not eat too much because it might make you sleepy, as all those stuffed from Thanksgiving dinner will agree to!
Spinach and Broccoli
All the dark green vegetables are packed full of vitamins that will help in times of stress. Spinach and broccoli are a great source of magnesium which can help keep you calm!
Milk and Yogurt
They’re high in calcium and B vitamins. They also contain amino acids that will help calm your mind, which is why some people like to drink a glass of milk before bed!
Everyone has some stress, it’s just a normal part of everyday life! You just have to learn how to handle it the right way so it doesn’t affect your health and mood! Remember that whatever you’re putting into your body can change how your body and mind works. So keep these suggestions for foods in mind for the next time you’re feeling a little frazzled!
